Change of teaching staff affiliation to areas of knowledge

 Organic Law 2/2023, of March 22, of the University System defines areas of knowledge as fields of knowledge characterised by the consistency of their subject matter, a common historical tradition and the existence of communities of teachers and researchers, at a national and international scale. The same law introduces areas of knowledge amongst the characteristics that identify positions for permanent teaching staff working at universities, and endows the Spanish national government with the power to establish and review the list of areas of knowledge, subsequent to a report from the University Council.

When conducting their internal procedure for issuing decisions on changes of knowledge area for their teaching staff, public universities may include the preliminary assessment carried out by ACSUCYL concerning the link between the applicant’s teaching, research and professional activity and a given area of knowledge.

For this purpose, the Agency includes this assessment programme in its Catalog of Evaluation Services, such that universities may solicitar la prestación (111 kbytes)  this service which, subsequent to approval by ACSUCYL’S Board of Directors and the signing of the corresponding contract, will give way to the assessment process.

ACSUCYL conducts assessment of the applications for evaluation received from universities through the Teaching Staff Assessment Committee , which is responsible amongst other tasks for:  

• Planning and coordinating the assessment process.

• Designing, approving and publishing the assessment criteria and methods.

• Adopting joint final assessment decisions.

In order to perform its tasks, the committee draws on the advice provided by panels of experts.
